THE WICHITA EAGLE

Violin for beginners -- The Northeast Area Strings Academy of Wichita is forming a new violin class for beginners. African American kids who will enter the fifth grade next fall may sign up; no musical experience is necessary.

Group class will be held Tuesday evenings from May 29 to July 24 at North Heights Christian Church, 3030 N. Hillside. Tuition is $65 for nine weeks of lessons and other activities.

The class will be limited to eight children; violins, bows and music will be provided for the summer. McHugh Violin Shop is preparing the instruments. Jim Starkey Music Center will provide violin cases.

Private lessons for string players will also be taught this summer.

NASAW was founded in 1994 to provide musical opportunities for young African-American string players.
