The Northeast Area Strings Academy of Wichita's high school students perform music from 'To Kill a Mockingbird'.
In April of 2000, the Winfield Regional Symphony invited our students to perform with the orchestra on a special project.
Most of our high school students took the opportunity to work with this orchestra and perform the original movie music score to "To Kill A Mockingbird". The concert was held at the Orpheum Theatre in Wichita and in addition to the orchestra's performance, three of the actors from the 1960's film were brought in to discuss the film's impact on America.
The night before the concert, the Winfield orchestra, NASAW students and the three actors had dinner together. This was a good opportunity for our kids to get acquainted with the actors.
Actor Mary Badham, NASAW students Titus James, Jr.and Edmund Moore and actor Brock Peters. This joint project of the Mockingbird concert was later recognized at the 2000 Kansas Governor's Arts Awards!
