Meet our Alumni
Jianna Cousin, a thirteen-year violist, and NASAW alum, has a passion for uplifting and advocating for the next generation. Hailing from the Northeast side of Wichita, the community has always been something very important to Jianna. In 2018, she left Wichita, going on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media from Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia -- graduating in 2022. During her time at CAU, Jianna performed as a member of the Atlanta University Center Symphony Orchestra -- seated as both first stand and section leader throughout her matriculation. Jianna spent eight childhood summers as a participant of NASAW, and two collegiate summers as an entry-level teacher.
Professionally, Jianna now works as a Production Associate for ABC News in New York City. Although symphony isn’t something she does full-time, her self-discipline and love for diverse music are things she applies in various areas of her life. One of her favorite symphonies to stream in her free time is Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 Romeo & Juliet. Jianna has been widely recognized for her work -- highlighted through speaking opportunities, digital features, award recognitions, and legislative involvement, both in her hometown of Wichita, Kansas, and collegiate city of Atlanta, Georgia.
In the long run, Jianna hopes to continue community work and establish well-run, affordable photo and music studios in Black and Brown neighborhoods. Yay, viola!!
